Simon’s grandmother Enid began cutting jigsaws during the First World War, helping injured pilots rehabilitate. She later went on to cut puzzles for King George VI and was described recently on the BBC’s Antique Show as the “greatest cutter of the 20th Century”. Simon’s father Peter continues cutting, having developed his own three-dimensional puzzles and passing on the skills to his children. Now only Simon and sister, Claudia, still cut, although the 4th generation has already begun cutting: Max (aged 5) can now reach the pedals unaided. In 2002 Simon presented his finest puzzle to date to Her Majesty The Queen in honour of her Golden Jubilee. The puzzle comprises 2512 pieces, ranging from one to five layers in thickness and containing a hidden riddle.
